O. beameri is only known from White Sands New Mexico, a desert composed of white gypsum dunes. Hoary rosemary mint (Poliomintha incana), host plant to O. beameri, is well adapted to White Sands in part because it is able to grow rapidly upward to stay above the shifting sands.
