southeastern bush katydid
Scudderia cuneata

Adult female immediately after molting, Alachua County, Florida.
The cast exoskeleton of the last instar juvenile hangs to the left and will soon be eaten by the female.
If a newly molted katydid cannot hang free while its hind legs harden (as in a cage
without a perch to hang from), its hind tibiae will be curled rather than straight.
