The Brooks County, Georgia, record is from J.J. Whitesell, who lives on a 130-acre tract in south Georgia. Since 1987, he has worked to turn the tract into a nature preserve. During an unseasonable three-day spell of freezing minimum temperatures during March 8 to 10, 2018, Whitesell collected a cold-shocked female giant katydid in the middle of a dirt road fronting on the preserve. After holding the katydid for several days and photographing it, he released it in a mesic hammock about 20 feet into the preserve from the collection point.
