07/24/98 - Sebring Mediterranean Fruit Fly Update - DACS

Provided by Dr. Marion Fuller
Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS)

Report Dated 07/24/98

Sebring

Fly Count: No more flies were trapped yesterday, leaving the total flies detected at 115, since the initial find on July 9th.

Treatment: Aerial bait treatment is scheduled for the northern block for tomorrow morning at first light, weather permitting. It should be completed by about noon. We are expecting EPA approval for aerial treatment in commercial groves within the southern block around the new fly find, which will begin immediately following completion of the northern block. The treatment area in commercial groves encompasses about half that block, mostly in the eastern half. The remainder of the block will be treated by ground, unless additional flies are picked up.

A more detailed update will follow later this weekend.
