More about Principles of Entomology 3005/5006
at the University of Florida

Why take this course?

Insects are everywhere! Most multi-cellular organisms are insects (not vertebrates!). They are essential to most ecosystems, and they are important to human agriculture and human health.

What else should I know about this course?

This is a 2-credit-hour lecture course. We meet twice a week in Entomology Room 1031 at 9:35 am.

How do I get started?

Register for either the online class with Dr. Baldwin or the in-person class with Dr. Miller. Then, make sure to also register for the lab, ENY 3005L (for undergraduate students) or ENY 5006L (for graduate students). If you have problems registering, contact Elena Alyanaya at ealyanaya@ufl.edu. Direct any questions about the in-person course material to Dr. Miller, cwmiller@ufl.edu.

What is my textbook?

Your textbook is Daly and Doyen's Introduction to Insect Biology and Diversity by Whitfield and Purcell. Additional notes and readings will be available online to enrolled students on Canvas via UF E learning. All students are required to view the Life in the Undergrowth series by the BBC.

Labs

The 1-credit lab is a required corequisite. All students enrolled in this course must take a lab section during the same semester. Labs frequently begin during the first week of classes! Contact Mr. Michael Vickers, michaelvickers@ufl.edu,the TA Supervisor for the labs, if you have any questions or concerns regarding the labs.
