Dr. Elke Weibelzahl Biological Scientist E-Mail: elke@ufl.edu |
Profile:
I was born in Berlin, Germany, where I became a horticulturist. In 1991, I earned my Master's in Technology of Crop Protection with a mayor in Nematology from the University of Reading, England. I then joined Don Dickson’s Nematology program at the University of Florida as a Ph.D. student and pursued my strong interest in biological control of plant-parasitic nematodes using Pasteuria penetrans. After graduating in 1998, I worked as an Assistant Manager on several local organic vegetable and fruit farms before I re-entered UF. Since September 2006, I am the Biological Scientist in the Small Fruit and Vegetable IPM laboratory. Here, I take care of small fruit plantings, conduct research, and assist graduate students with their research. I am focusing my efforts on all aspects of conservation; not only for the sake of my two children. In my spare time, I enjoy creativity, travel, and nature.
