Introduction

Highlands Hammock State Park is located in Highlands County, a few miles east of Zolfo springs. Two areas are mapped in the park and have been being monitored by volunteers since August 2002. Bromeliad species presently selected for monitoring includes Tillandsia utriculata, T. fasciculata and T. simulata. Tillandsia variabilis is known to inhabit the park and may be included in future mappings.

Mapping and Monitoring research project
that is being conducted in
Florida's State Parks and Refuges,
which in turn is part of a larger effort being conducted by
Dr. Howard Frank and Dr. Barbra Larson at the University of Florida,
Save Florida's Native Bromeliads
