Insect Classification Diagnostic Test – Part 1 Written Questions

Please answer the following questions. Your responses will be used by me to determine your background knowledge of entomology and insect classification. If you do not know an answer, please leave it blank or state that you do not know for sure. You may not know many of the answers right now, but will be able to answer them all by the end of the semester. You should probably spend no more than 30 minutes on this. Please do not look up the answers. Your answers will be sent using your email. This form will also be available as an online for which will submit your answers to a file on our dept server. The advantage of this is it will bypass any email provider blockage of form submissions. Yu may also use regular mail to send this to me. Print out the page(s) and send the hard copy to me if you wish. Report any problems submitting this to me via email. Type your answers in the text box after each question. When you are finshed press the "Submit Form" button and with a little luck your responses will be emailed to me, or sent to our server. You may also copy your responses and paste them into an email message if the form submission does not work. Some email providers will not permit form submissions using their email protocol. Part 2 - Sight Identification

The second part of this exercise involves sight identification of a number of different insects. You will find pictures of 27 specimens for you to identify. This is by sight ID only, no books please! Spelling will count on actual graded exercises! Write your determinations in the box below each picture. If you are not able to identify a specimen because something is not visible, include that under the comments. This is intended to measure your background knowledge and will not be used as part of your final grade. Do not be concerned if you are unable to recognize any/all of these. You will by the end of the semester.
