ALS 3203 - Lesson 3
Saving files

© P. M. Choate 2009

Background: One basic computer skill everyone should master is an efficient way to save their work. This involves properly naming a file, saving that file to a desirable (not random) location, and knowing how to find that same file again to open and work on it.

You should learn to work from the hard disk of your computer, not from a floppy disk. As you work, SAVE, SAVE, SAVE. How often? How much do you want to have to redo from memory??? When you are finished copy the file to a floppy disk, flash drive, or some other backup device. Hard disks are much faster, less prone to failure, and should always have enough free space for your file. Floppy disk drives are slow, and you may easily create a file too large for the free space on a floppy disk.

Objective: At the end of this exercise you will have learned how to name and save files. Your knowledge will be demonstrated by actually saving the contents of a web page to a file on a floppy disk or hard drive and re-opening that same file in your browser on your computer as proof that you succeeded.
