Lesson Objectives:
  1. To Introduce you to a few basic spreadsheet operations (data and formula entry, cell addresses)
  2. Learn how to enter formulas into a spreadsheet (this varies with version of your spreadsheet application).
  3. Learn how to display formulas in worksheet. Again, this will vary according to your application. Search your program HELP menu for information on any/all of these techniques as you go along.
  4. Understand the difference between Relative and absolute cell address (see Glossary)
Lesson Tasks:
  1. Read overview of spreadsheets.
  2. If this is all new to you, take the time to look at your spreadsheet application tutorial and help menu to quickly learn some of the basics.
  3. Fill out and submit Metric Measurements Conversion spreadsheet (When you do this, your formulas will be evaluated, but they may not agree with the ones that have been stored in a grading script, so DO NOT BE CONCERNERD with your score). There are several ways to enter the formulas. The grading script will only recognize one of them, so go ahead and enter your formulas into designated cells (red borders) to complete the exercise. Be sure you Do not enter actual values, in formulas, instead use cell references! Learn to use the power of a spreadsheet using cell references.
  4. Reproduce the Metric Conversion Spreadsheet in MS Excel or another spreadsheet, including all formulas and information as presented (this means text content, column labels..), and save it to your als3203 folder. Later you will send it to me as an email attachment. Be sure to name the filewith yourlastname_firstname_lesson10 and the appropriate filename extension. This means that you will actually produce a functional spreadsheet with formatted cells.
  5. When you have finished, be sure to Complete and submit Lesson Completion Certification
